Anariel grinned, all the more so when Elrohir couldn’t give her the glare he was clearly dying to in return.

How much longer do you intend to stay out here? he asked pointedly.

Yes, you could just do as you said and smuggle them back in with us if you want to keep picking his brain about Uncle Gildor.

The twins had grown progressively less in favor of this outing as ‘a little while’ turned into several hours - and the more people they encountered. Well, she encountered, really.

She had no idea what they thought she could do, though. It wasn’t as if ‘suddenly turn into a hermit’ was a viable option. That wouldn’t even work with just their extended family. Judging by Gwindor’s sister-in-law, quite a few people not related to her were expecting to see her, too.

Besides, it was a good party. Odds were not everyone out here had died horribly. Or had Morgoth’s personal attention.

Her brothers had been uneasy even before she’d added an elf who died in the fall of Nargothrond and two who died at the Nirnaeth to their group. So she’d done her best to ease their minds by saying she recognized Gwindor from Gildor’s stories when actually she knew him from seeing all about Finduilas’ death. (He looked much better than he had at the end in Nargothrond – he had returned as he had been before his stint in Angband.)

Her brothers might or might not have believed that excuse – they probably thought she’d recognized him from the mercifully brief Gildor dream – but it had given everyone an excellent conversation starter.

Not to mention, it had also given her big brother a graceful out – Elladan had already lost three straight dance-offs, and it wasn’t as if best of seven would improve his chances. But without the distraction, he would definitely have tried.

She was also confident that Gwindor coming across them hadn't been by accident. Arador’s hair was very like Finduilas’. (Also, not that far from her own – covering it had definitely been a good move.) She wasn’t about to make him say it, though. She didn’t want to embarrass him.

She thought Gwindor looking for Finduilas was a good sign – almost as good a sign as Gwindor being kind, and nice, and quite funny when he chose to be. He had a trove of hilarious stories about Gildor’s youth. (It sounded as if he’d been far more interesting than they had realized.)

She just hoped Finduilas wouldn’t be too cross at being surprised twice.
