Summary: New grandmothers means new questions means Anariel gets commandeered for dinner.
Word Count: 310
Note: Sorry, tight on time this evening. Will try to make it up tomorrow!
Anariel looked at her brothers, but they were just as stuck for it a she was.
Gramma Eärwen and Grandpa Arafinwë were having dinner with all their kids tonight – though without Finduilas, as her parents were also seizing the chance to have a family dinner.
Anariel had been hopeful that meant her immediate family would get to do the same, but Grandmothers Indis and Míriel had other ideas and had appropriated her and her brothers so smoothly even Ada hadn’t argued.
On the one hand, she wasn’t in the mood for being questioned by the grandmother brigade – particularly not the ones who were apparently its commanders. On the other hand, she was going to know a lot more about both of them by morning, so putting up with a few awkward questions was fair. (Not that she had any intention of explaining that part.)
She’d really just as soon have slipped off to have a quiet think about some of what her sister had said, but that was going to have to wait.
“At least they picked a nice spot?” Elrohir offered, picking up on her reluctance.
“The orchid house is one of your favorites,” Elladan added.
It was, but usually there were fewer people.
“Really, darling. Your brothers, you, and the two of is isn’t a crowd,” Grandmother Indis chided.
“Given what a full house we have right now, it’s barely even a handful,” Grandmother Míriel added. “And you didn’t really think we wouldn’t be curious, did you?”
Anariel sighed internally and pasted a bright smile on her face.
“Of course you are,” she replied. “So are we.”
“We also have the advantage of knowing some of your favorites,” Grandmother Indis said, shooting Míriel a look Anariel couldn’t interpret. “Including the California ones.”
Anariel’s smile at the macaroni and cheese wasn’t faked. At least the grandmotherly inquisition was well-catered.
