Note: Sorry it's short, but I've been working on making croissants all day, they're just out of the oven, and I have no ability to focus on anything else when they smell so good. I will do better tomorrow.

Anariel grinned as she caught the singing up ahead.

It turned out some songs hadn’t changed much through the ages – songs of defiance, sung before the Noldor had returned to Beleriand, were among them. Not that the genre ever stopped growing, first singing in spite of Morgoth, then later against Sauron. There was always call for that kind of song. But much like classic rock back in California, the early hits never faded, just became embedded into the collective consciousness.

So she knew this one, and it happened to be one she liked – and better yet, it was just starting. This was one of the opening verses.

“This is going to be great,” she said happily.

Arador rolled his eyes.

“Like we would take you to a party that was boring?”

“Could any party with her be boring?”

Sololindo could do dry humor with the best of them.

Anariel hummed through the first verse, but picked up the song with the chorus.

Heads turned – golden blonde was apparently still rare enough among the Lindar that someone answering her description joining in was noteworthy. They’d just have to deal. She’d gone toe to toe with Morgoth. She’s darn well allowed to sing those words, and she let her favorite line soar.

“We will be victorious!”

Very subtle.

She blinked. She was used to osanwë from Arador now, but this was the first time Solo had tried it.

I didn’t think we were trying for subtle, she replied, not missing a beat on either level.

I didn’t know you did subtle, Arador laughed silently.

I can be plenty subtle when the occasion calls for it! she protested indignantly. But no one said this one did!

She could see the exact moment someone recognized either the circlet or the braids.

The music and singing suddenly took on a new energy and urgency. Yeah, they recognized her. And they were proud of her.

You thought it would be otherwise? Solo snorted. All Lindar, regardless which king they look to, know what you did. Which makes two of our princesses who stood against the Enemy.

He didn’t say ‘to zero of the princes of the Noldor’, but then again, he didn’t have to. It was implied. Besides, Anariel knew her family history.

You are the family history, Arador snickered. And I think you’ll find the Noldor make the tale two to one, seeing as they count you as theirs too.

True.

Let’s hope they’ve gotten better at sharing, she sighed.

She finished the song with a brilliant smile and waited for the next one to start.

This promised to be a kick-ass party.

”You are the family history”

With that lineage and her own deeds holding up to those of any in said lineage? Absolutely! Loved this update, short or not. Thank you!
