Summary: Dawn finds the wrong angel in the bookshop.
Word Count: 405
Notes:
1. We appear to be having interesting weather and my internet keeps cutting out. So posting something short so as not to miss the day.
2. Cue handwaving about the timeline - I didn't think this one through very hard, but I'm smashing together my previous Dawn & Adam shorts with season 2 of the Good Omens series...

Something was off. Dawn could feel it the second she stepped through the door of the bookshop.

“Dog! Here!” she called.

The benefit of her being the Key and Dog being a hellhound meant he could hear her anywhere. And since she and Adam had gotten together, he’d defend her same as he would Adam. Hopefully her boyfriend wasn’t up to anything that required Dog’s watchful presence…

“No, no, you can’t have dogs in bookshops! I’m sure that’s on the list of instructions somewhere!”

A slightly confused looking person appeared from the general direction of the backroom holding a stack of books. They were trying for authority, but not very good at it.

“Who are you?” Dawn demanded.

“I’m a bookshop owner! Are you by any chance interested in books?”

This was said with the sort of cheerful enthusiasm usually associated with small children or people in altered states of reality. Or…

Dawn hadn’t had run-ins with very many angels, but it occurred to her this just might be one.

“What’s your name?” Dawn asked patiently.

She might have gotten an answer had Dog not turned up just then, and picked up the same feeling of Not Right that Dawn had. He growled – not the sort of growl that warned Violence Would Ensue, but the sort of growl that informed everyone in the vicinity that he was Not Happy. Then he sat down, keeping a wary eye on the angel.

“Oh no! That’s a hellhound!” the very definitely not Aziraphale person exclaimed. “Run?”

“I’m aware. He’s a friend of mine. Speaking of which, where’s Aziraphale? Adam was expecting him for dinner but he never turned up. Usually he lets us know if he’s delayed. And I didn’t catch your name.”

Dawn smiled brightly. With angels, being cheerful helped. Unless it was Gabriel, in which case, you were free to be as much of an asshole as he was. (These were Adam’s unofficial rules of engagement, as laid down by Crowley. Neither of them had seen any need to give her rules of engagement for demons.)

“I’m Muriel,” the angel replied, looking slightly worried. “Are you…one of us?”

“Nope,” Dawn replied. “Aziraphale?”

“There’s been a change in situation,” Muriel said, not quite at ease with the uncertainty about who or what Dawn was. “He’s been called back…”

They pointed upwards.

“Again?” Dawn spluttered. “Where’s Crowley? Does he know about this? Dog, go get Adam right now!”
