Title: Water Baby
Author: Grundy (

Rating: FR13
Crossover: Rivers of London
Summary: Dawn has some news.
Word Count: 345
Note: Sorry, needed a break from Anariel & co today. Brain-fried after a very long day, and can't concentrate enough to work on anything in that 'verse. Also, this contains spoilers for Lies Sleeping.
Dawn knocked before poking her head into Buffy’s office. As ever, it was a wholly perfunctory knock, more a warning that she was coming in then a request for permission.
“Got a minute?” she asked.
Buffy contemplated the stack of paperwork on her desk – after a trip to southern Africa with some of the junior Slayers to make sure an ‘it’s not an apocalypse’ situation stayed that way, it had really stacked up – and looked at her sister.
“I’ve got all the minutes you want,” she replied hopefully.
Dawn laughed and came all the way into the room, closing the door behind her.
“Nice try, but this isn’t going to get you out of all that,” she said. “It’s quick. At least, I think it’s quick. Good news, bad news, which do you want first?”
Buffy thought for a second.
“Good news,” she decided. “Bad news usually requires me to do something about it, and if there’s enough I have to do, I might not get back to the good.”
“A Nicky-shaped water birdie told me that a certain DC and Bev are expecting.”
Buffy blinked.
“Wow. That’s… I mean, I guess it’s not unexpected, they’ve been together for years now. But, still- wow.” She paused. “Will the baby be a genius too?”
Dawn sighed.
“Genius loci, Buffy. Genius makes it sound like you think it’s going to be an actual baby Einstein. Which brings me to the bad news.”
Buffy looked at her suspiciously.
“What are the rivers up to now?” she asked cautiously.
The Slayers and the genii locorum of the rivers of London (and southern England in general) weren’t enemies, but they weren’t exactly allies, either.
“It’s not them,” Dawn assured her. “I mean, it’s mostly not them.”
Buffy waited.
“When I followed up on Nicky's gossip, Effra warned me there’s going to be a baby shower. We're invited.”
“I thought you said bad. A baby shower isn’t bad.”
“It is when you have no idea what one should gift an expectant river spirit.”
Buffy brightened.
“This calls for research. And shopping!”

Date: 2019-08-10 06:48 am (UTC)Shopping. Of course it will require shopping. This is fun.
(And now I am imagining Anariel in Tirion, — once she’s had a moment to recover — planning a shopping campaign. Somewhat to the crogglement of a few of her relatives.)
