Title*: It's The Waiting That Gets To You
Rating: FR13
Crossover: LotR/Silmarillion
Summary: Tindomiel is keeping an eye on the horizon.
Word Count: 350ish
Note: Sorry so short - long day, no writing time. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be less pressed for time.
Tindomiel stared out to sea.
The trip to Alqualondë had passed in a blur. She was pretty sure she hadn’t been the only one whose mind was some unknown number of miles away, out beyond the Isles, hoping that the ship bearing her sister and brothers was nearly to the safety of the seas that were considered part of Aman.
Now that they were here, her parents were doing their best to keep it together, but she could see the cracks around the edges. They usually stayed at Olwë’s when they were here as a family, but her father had wanted to stay with his parents this time. Well, with his mother, anyway. His father was in the sky day and night, and probably would be until his grandchildren were safely on land again.
This was sort of like waiting up for her sister in Sunnydale had been – but much, much worse. At least in Sunnydale she’d usually had someone else around for the big fights. First Willow and Xander, then Anya and Tara, and occasionally Spike or Faith. Part of the reason she’d made it so long as the Slayer was that she didn’t fight alone.
But this time, she was on her own, with the worst enemy she’d ever faced.
It didn’t help to think that she’d been holding out for over a month. A normal crossing on the Straight Road was four weeks. But Uinen had brought word that their ship had been slow to find the Road, and even once it had, some other will had contended with that of her lord. Ulmo was doing his best to speed them along, and they were making good speed now, but the first week or so at sea had not been so fortunate. A few days more should finally bring them to the waters of the Blessed Land.
But if there was one thing Tindomiel had learned in Sunnydale, it was that it only took a split second – just one mistake. There were still far too many seconds between her sister and safety for her to be calm.

Date: 2019-08-12 02:14 am (UTC)It's purely a question of writing time at this point - I'm finally writing out bits I've had in mind for five years or so.
And I agree that being in the thick of it is much preferable to the waiting game...
