He was in the healing hall checking the apothecary inventory when he felt the first misgivings.
Not that anyone aside from his own people would ever believe that. He knew how the Sindar thought of him even now, and he’s had an ugly feeling for a while that it will be their view that will prevail. They remember Celegorm the fighter, Celegorm the hunter.
Funny how everyone remembers the hunt when they think of Oromë but no one remembers that he is also a friend to the birds and animals of the lands he rides through, and his hunt is not wanton or wasteful.
If they can’t remember that about a Vala, they’re not going to remember a Kinslayer who found stocking healing herbs soothing. At best, they might remember he was strong. You know, like in his name. His father name. That no one ever uses anymore…
He focused harder on the herbs, trying to ignore the crinkling in his scalp. Willowbark, need more. Camomile, fully stocked. Feverfew…not too low, but could do with more.
Focus on the herbs. Even aside from the smells and scents, just seeing the orderly shelves is soothing.
Except it gets decidedly less soothing when you look up and realize the horizon’s on fire.
Crap.
He headed for the battlements. A better view would help. And maybe there would be a way to get word to his older brothers…
Of course not. Because that would be too easy. The horizon’s on fire in several directions, not just one. Himlad is cut off. They’re on their own to figure out how to handle this.
And, of course, his oldest brother’s instructions hadn’t been terribly helpful. “Don’t do what I would do. But don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
That might sound like a narrow envelope to most people (or maybe just completely contradictory.) But it made perfect sense to Tyelkormo. If anything, Curvo has to rein him from getting too creative with it.
Creative might be good about now, though… after all, when Morgoth’s apparently lit the entire North on fire, what can it hurt?
