Summary: Adam wanted to introduce Dawn to Crowley and Aziraphale. What could possibly go wrong?
Word Count: 600

Adam tried not to be nervous as he ushered Dawn into Aziriphale’s bookshop.

On the bright side, there were books. Plenty of books. Lots of books. He knew how much Dawn liked old books, and he was willing to be there were several in here that would grab her attention.

On the other hand, there was the potentially volatile mix of the first girl he’s ever been serious enough to tell Everything and both his godfathers.
Anything could happen, really. He was braced. He was prepared.

At least, he thought he was until Dawn came to a dead stop as she and Crowley glared at each other like a pair of cats about to fight.

He hadn’t expected his (maybe) girlfriend and (definitely) godfather to take one look at each other and instantly weigh the benefits of going on the offensive.

“Not a real girl, Adam,” Crowley growled.

“Am so, demon!” Dawn snapped.

Fortunately for all involved, Aziriphale bustled in between them immediately.

“We talked about this,” he said firmly, taking Dawn’s hand and leading her toward the back room. “How do you do, my dear? Crowley, you promised me you’d be reasonable.

“I will if she is,” Crowley ground out.

“I keep holy water in my bag,” Dawn informed them, not taking her still dangerously narrowed eyes off Crowley for a second. “Believe me, if I wasn’t being reasonable, you’d know about it.”

Crowley flinched.

Adam slid in on Dawn’s other side.

“He’s not so bad once you get to know him,” he said soothingly. “Really, I thought you two would get on.”

Aziraphale swatted at Crowley as Adam steered Dawn toward the table they always ate at whenever Aziraphale let them have food in the shop.

“Manners,” he said pointedly.

“How do you do, Miss Summers,” Crowley managed, in the tone Adam had heard once before, right before Crowley got into a shouting match with Gabriel after the apocalypse the week of his A-levels.

“Just fine, thanks,” Dawn replied, unbending ever so slightly.

Adam decided that was an encouraging sign. Sure, you’d need a micrometer to measure it, but she had. Just a little.

“Wonderful,” Aziriphale beamed. “Now, we’ve got a spot of breakfast here. There’s a place around the corner that does American breakfasts. They’re not normally open this early, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask and they made something up for me as a favor.”

His slightly guilty look told Adam that ‘it’s a miracle you got anywhere in the West End to do you breakfast at this hour on a Saturday’ would be entirely accurate.

Dawn still kept one eye on Crowley, but she did smile at Aziriphale.

“You didn’t have to go to any trouble,” she said.

“You say that now, but you’ll love their pancakes with berries and cream,” Aziriphale beamed. “Just have a seat. You too, Adam. Crowley, put on some music. You know I’m dreadful at working the gramophone.”

Adam tried not to snicker too hard as Crowley bit back the reminder that the top of the line sound system he’d gotten Aziriphale several years back was by no stretch of the imagination a gramophone and obligingly put on a string quartet.

Dawn’s lips quirked as if she knew perfectly well Crowley was saving his commentary for later. (He might not say it for hours, but sooner or later, he would.)

Adam decided that if both sides could manage to stay civil for the duration of breakfast, it was possible they just might get through the morning without any hexes, portals, or demonic ‘miracles’.
