Fic A Day, Day 11 - Meet the Godparents

Title:  Meet the Godparents
Rating: FR13
Crossover: Good Omens
Summary: Adam takes Dawn to London to meet his godfathers.
Word Count: 500
Note: This fits with last year's Adam and Dawn shorts. (Also, another 'out of time' day. Which is mostly because I started and then abandoned about five other things first... Better luck tomorrow?)

Dawn tried not to let her nerves show as she and Adam headed for the Bakerloo line.

Somehow meeting Adam’s godparents felt more intimidating than Thanksgiving at his parents’ house. His parents adored him, but they clearly had no idea he wasn’t a normal boy. His godparents, he’d implied, knew all about him, his apocalypses, everything. Assuming she survived that unscathed, there was still meeting the other two Them.

Adam, of course, thought this was an ideal plan. (She wasn’t sure how much weight she should put on that, given that he also thought ‘let’s go to central London on a Saturday during holiday shopping season’ was a good plan.) She got the impression he wasn’t used to introducing girls – or boys, for that matter – to his family and friends.

She hadn’t mentioned the Key yet, although she wanted to. After all, he’d been honest with her about his origins. But after growing up on the Hellmouth, ‘better safe than sorry’ were words to live by. She’s waiting to make sure his godfathers aren’t responsible for either of those apocalypses he told her about before she lets him in on why she found it so easy to roll with ‘actually, I’m an antichrist.’

She was by now unsurprised to discover that Dog came along for the trip, even though she was pretty sure dogs weren’t normally allowed on the Tube – and if they were, they probably were supposed to be on leashes. But he breezed right through the ticket gates with Adam and padded down the stairs like he did this all the time. (Which, if Adam came to visit regularly, he probably did.)

“They’re going to like you,” Adam assured her as the train rattled through the tunnels. “I mean, they’re probably going to be a bit curious first. But then they’ll like you. Don’t let Crowley put you off. He’s…well, you’ll see.”

They emerged into the winter sunlight before the Christmas shopping crowds had descended onto Oxford Street for the day.

Adam led the way, and cut right into the first side street.

“Habit,” he shrugged at her quizzical look. “I usually don’t get here this early in the day.”

Dog frolicked up the street ahead of them, and gave every appearance of knowing where they were going as well as Adam did.

Several streets and a couple turns later, they came to a stop in front of the sort of bookshop Dawn hadn’t realized still existed in Soho. She felt like a shop along the lines of A.Z. Fell & Co, purveyors of books to the gentry was still in business, it would have been more in place somewhere in St. James or Mayfair.

“Come on,” Adam said with a grin. “Don’t worry, they’ll have left the door unlocked, even though the shop’s not open yet. And trust me, it’s much more comfortable having breakfast here than at Crowley’s flat. He got into minimalist décor in the late 80s and never got back out of it again.”

Ooh, this is going to be 'interesting' on several levels. I'm glad to see you've picked this back up this year, as I very much enjoyed what you wrote last year.

Heh...and talk about a Power Couple, I don't think anyone could be moreso without being actual Deities, even though they may not be trained to access their powers at the moment.
