Gorgeous wild roses, I can imagine it smelled wonderful after the rain. The weather pattern you're experiencing sounds a lot like what we get out here. It will rain steadily for days, yet you can hit certain areas of the highway where the sun is shining and the pavement is dry. Yes, I think I do live in the Twilight Zone, at least as far as odd weather is concerned.
